2020 has actualized our need for meaningful and satisfying human connection, co-operation and worldwide peace. In the western world the mental, emotional and physical health of the individual is deemed primary to their personal wellbeing while in Africa, wellbeing has been informed by a relational paradigm, the most well-known of this being the concept of “Ubuntu” which is part of an isiZulu phrase “Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu” meaning “I am because you are”, or more literally “A person is a person through other people”.
Under the theme of Human Connectedness – an African perspective, leading local social scientists, researchers and practitioners who work within a relational paradigm will offer their insights and experiences on how we are to understand and develop the science of human connection in our changing world.
We look forward to three days of sharing a meaningful and experiential connection with you, where we will learn together and participate in an ever-expanding awareness of human connectedness.
