Bruce Lipton<\/a> sat down with Dr. Deborah Sandella to reveal how cells hold profound secrets of the heart.<\/em><\/p>\nWhat do your cells have to do with love? Molecular biology and romance\u00a0seem unlikely bedfellows, but according to Dr. Bruce Lipton, a stem cell\u00a0biologist, bestselling author of The Biology of Belief and recipient of the\u00a02009 Goi Peace Award, it\u2019s quite an affair. He calls it the \u201cHoneymoon\u00a0Effect.\u201d<\/p>\n
Almost everyone can remember a time when they were \u201chead-over-heels in\u00a0love.\u201d During this juicy time of life, points out Lipton, our perception of the\u00a0world expands and our eyes twinkle with delight. Our affection isn\u2019t limited\u00a0to our selected partner; rather we are in love with life itself and it shows.<\/p>\n
We take risks to experiment with new foods, activities and clothes. We\u00a0listen more, share more and take more time for pleasure. Lipton chuckles about\u00a0how what seems hostile the day before becomes heaven on earth when we\u2019re\u00a0in love. We don\u2019t even notice the aggressive drivers that irritated the heck\u00a0out of us yesterday; today, we\u2019re lost in daydreams and love songs.<\/p>\n

Our affection isn\u2019t limited\u00a0to our partner; rather we are in love with life itself and it shows.<\/em><\/p>\nThe Vibration of Love<\/strong><\/p>\nAmazing as it may sound, each and every one of our cells behaves like a\u00a0miniature human, says Lipton. Inside you, fifty trillion minute human-like cells work together. Cells side-by-side helping each other accomplish\u00a0pumping your heart, breathing your lungs and all the millions of tasks that\u00a0need to happen. When we feel \u201cin love,\u201d our cells have the vibration of love\u00a0too! Sounds pretty good!<\/p>\n
It all begins with life, which is defined by movement according to Lipton.\u00a0Proteins, the primal elements of life easily wrap themselves into organic\u00a0wire sculptures and move in response to environmental signals. On the\u00a0surface of each cell, receptor proteins receive environmental signals while\u00a0the effector proteins transform into vibrations and transmit them to the brain\u00a0where they are interpreted. It doesn\u2019t take much imagination to picture the\u00a0difference between how these protein sculptures move when they are \u201chead-over-heels in love\u201d versus when they are irritated. We\u2019ve been there!<\/p>\n

In the eighties, when Lipton discovered that the cell membrane is its brain,\u00a0his breakthrough research suggested that environmental signals, whether\u00a0of love or another emotion, are primary in creating illness. He presaged\u00a0one of today\u2019s most important fields of study, the science of epigenetic,\u00a0which explores how cellular chemical reactions switch genes on and off.<\/p>\n
Research in this area has found that stress, diet, behavior, toxins and other\u00a0factors activate chemical switches that regulate gene expression. Lipton\u00a0clarifies that this new area of study reveals that environmental influences are\u00a0more prominent in causing illness than genes. He says new cancer research\u00a0suggests that genetic factors influence the occurrence of illness a mere 10%\u00a0of the time. In other words, the perception of our environment is responsible\u00a0for our body\u2019s health 90% of the time.<\/p>\n

When we feel \u201cin love,\u201d our cells have the vibration of love\u00a0too!<\/em><\/p>\nThe Power of Perception<\/strong><\/p>\nEven more interesting, Lipton reports current research demonstrates how\u00a0our protein structures are more highly activated by non-physical signals\u00a0than chemical signals. In other words, our environmental perceptions have\u00a0a more powerful influence on our health than drugs. Thus science is telling\u00a0us, we have more innate capacity to heal our ills than the pharmacy.<\/p>\n
With a tone of excitement Lipton notes, \u201c Wow! This means that people\u00a0are not victims of their genes as we used to think. They can change their\u00a0perceptions and thus change their health. Now that\u2019s exciting! The old\u00a0biology used to take away choice and control the outcome. When you tell\u00a0people they are victims, their power is diminished. The work now is to help\u00a0people change their perceptions so they can change their outcomes.\u201d<\/p>\n
How does it work you ask? The cell is a data \u201cchip\u201d by its definition,\u00a0shares Lipton. Our perceptual memories and beliefs are stored in the cell\u00a0membrane and constantly being transmitted to the brain for interpretation.\u00a0The mind responds to these vibrational messages by creating coherence\u00a0between belief and reality. In other words, when your cells transmit to your\u00a0mind, the mind works diligently to create the same chemical reality in your\u00a0body. Thus, if you believe you will get sick, your mind will coordinate your\u00a0cells to make it true. And if your cells transmit signals suggesting you are\u00a0vibrant and healthy, your mind again will go about making that happen.<\/p>\n
This power of perception is demonstrated, says Lipton, in studies which\u00a0found adopted children get cancer with the same propensity as their\u00a0siblings who are raised in the same family, yet from different genetics.<\/p>\n

If you believe you will get sick, your mind will coordinate your\u00a0cells to make it true.<\/em><\/p>\nSubconscious Downloads<\/strong><\/p>\nIn fact, Lipton reports, \u201cmedicine has acknowledged that illness is\u00a0seeded in the first six years of life when beliefs are downloaded by the\u00a0family into the child\u2019s subconscious.\u201d During these years, children\u2019s\u00a0minds are primarily in a theta brain wave pattern, which creates a\u00a0hypnagogic state of mind. This trance state explains why children easily\u00a0blur the boundary between fantasy and form. Walking around in a\u00a0trance, young children absorb their parent\u2019s beliefs into subconscious\u00a0memory without question or discernment.<\/p>\n
Lipton explains how these subconscious downloads work by comparing\u00a0them to an iPod. When you get a new iPod, there are no recordings, so you can\u2019t play anything. Once you download songs to memory, you\u00a0can play the downloaded songs. In fact, they are the only songs you\u00a0can play. There are plenty of other choices for songs, but you can\u2019t\u00a0play them on your iPod until you download them. Similarly, whatever\u00a0has been downloaded into our subconscious memory and stored in\u00a0our cells is the only choice available to be heard and seen in the body.<\/p>\n
Other choices are not possible until they are downloaded as beliefs and\u00a0perception into the subconscious. Thus, we automatically act out our\u00a0parents\u2019 beliefs, unless we are exposed to other beliefs or intentionally\u00a0seed new beliefs.<\/p>\n

Children absorb their parent\u2019s beliefs into subconscious\u00a0memory without question.<\/em><\/p>\nA Shift to Love and Vitality<\/strong><\/p>\nLipton points out that the biggest problem is that people don\u2019t believe\u00a0they can change their minds and beliefs very easily. He suggests that\u00a0if we teach our children in their first 6 years that they can change their\u00a0minds and thus their bodies, an empowering shift to love and vitality\u00a0can become easy.<\/p>\n
Not only does cellular biology have something to tell us about love\u00a0in our bodies, it also is very revealing about the nature of human\u00a0connection, says Lipton. It\u2019s called Biomimicry and is a new discipline\u00a0in biology that uses nature\u2019s best ideas to solve problems. Animals,\u00a0plants and microbes have found what works, and we can learn from them. They demonstrate ways of functioning that have endured over\u00a03.8 billion years of existence.<\/p>\n
In Lipton\u2019s latest book, Spontaneous Evolution, he and co-author\u00a0Bhaerman suggest cells are smarter than we are when it comes to\u00a0creating successful communities. They elucidate how cells organise\u00a0themselves to have a monetary system that pays other cells according\u00a0to the importance of the work they do and stores excess profits in\u00a0community banks. They have a research and development system\u00a0that creates technology and biochemical equivalents of expansive\u00a0computer networks. Sophisticated environmental systems provide\u00a0air and water purification treatment that is more technologically\u00a0advanced than humans have ever imagined.<\/p>\n

Animals,\u00a0plants and microbes have found what works, and we can learn from them.<\/em><\/p>\n\u201cNo Cell Left Behind\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\nThe same is true for\u00a0heating and cooling systems. The communication system within and\u00a0amongst cells is an Internet that sends zip-coded messages directly to\u00a0individual cells. They even have a criminal justice system that detains,\u00a0imprisons, rehabilitates, and in a Kevorkian way, assists with the suicide\u00a0of destructive cells. Unlike us, cells have organized full healthcare\u00a0coverage that makes sure each cell gets what it needs to stay healthy,\u00a0and an immune system that protects the cells and the body like a\u00a0dedicated National Guard.<\/p>\n
Lipton makes an intriguing analogy between how 50 trillion cells in the\u00a0human body work together for the success of the individual is similar to\u00a0how 7 billion human beings could work together for the success of the\u00a0planet. He points out we haven\u2019t been doing such nearly as good a job\u00a0as cells.<\/p>\n
Lipton emphasizes that our individual mind like an individual cell has\u00a0far less awareness than the consciousness of the whole group. When a\u00a0cell fulfills its evolution, it assembles into colonies with other evolved\u00a0cells to share and expand the capability of consciousness. There\u2019s\u00a0a \u201cno cell left behind\u201d attitude and the economic appropriation of\u00a0resources to support the whole. Lipton says we would do well as a\u00a0collective to evolve to such a high level of consciousness as our cells. He\u00a0writes, \u201cScience suggests that the next stage of human evolution will be\u00a0marked by awareness that we are all interdependent cells within the\u00a0super-organism called humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n

We are all interdependent cells within the\u00a0super-organism called humanity.<\/em><\/p>\nRewriting our Perceptions<\/strong><\/p>\nFirst, however, we must work in our own back yard urges Lipton, \u201cWe\u00a0must change the evolution of our individual selves so the collective\u00a0consciousness can progress.\u201d He urges us to get our lives back by\u00a0rewriting our perceptions so we can create that head-over-heels in love\u00a0state-of-mind again and again and again. He encourages us to download\u00a0new beliefs of empowerment and love into cellular memory, so our cells\u00a0have new lovely tunes to play with lyrics that affirm our lovability.<\/p>\n
Lipton calls the quest to continuously feel \u201cin love,\u201d \u201cThe science\u00a0of creating heaven on earth.\u201d And science has spoken about such\u00a0things, writes Lipton. For example, HeartMath researchers have\u00a0found the impact of love itself is real and biochemically measurable,\u00a0\u201cWhen subjects focus their attention on the heart and activate a core\u00a0heart feeling, such as love, appreciation, or caring, these emotions\u00a0immediately shift their heartbeat rhythms into a more coherent\u00a0pattern. Increasing heartbeat coherence activates a cascade of neural\u00a0and biochemical events that affect virtually every organ in the body.<\/p>\n
Studies demonstrate that heart coherence leads to more intelligence\u00a0by reducing the activity of the sympathetic nervous system\u2014our fight-or-flight mechanism\u2014while simultaneously increasing the growth-promoting activity of the parasympathetic nervous system.\u201d As a result,\u00a0stress hormones are reduced and the anti-aging hormone DHEA is\u00a0produced. Love actually does make us healthier, happier, and longer-living.<\/p>\n
It turns out molecular biology and love actually is a match made in\u00a0heaven. Dr. Bruce Lipton challenges us to study and understand how to\u00a0experience that heaven on earth continuously, with dancing proteins on\u00a0our cells that swoon and sway with love.<\/p>\n
