Leon Wessels LLD
Author of “Encountering Apartheid’s Ghosts – from Krugersdorp to Constitution Hill” and “MY RIGHTS! Your rights? Let’s talk” is an advocate for Human Rights, social reconciliation and social justice.
Leon has enjoyed a political career spanning 23 years, participating in the CODESA-Kempton Park negotiations (1991-1994), and serving as Deputy Chairperson of the Constitutional Assembly (1994-1996), and Advocate of the High Court of South Africa since 1973.
Leon served as a Commissioner to the South African Human Rights Commission, was an Associate of the Institute for Reconciliation and Social Justice at the University of the Free State, and also Director of the Free State Centre for Human Rights. Leon is currently a member of the Constitutional Hill Trust and the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution and a legal advisor for Thusang Morwalo.
